Gravel driveway installation in New Jersey

New installs, regrades and stone resurfacing for New Jersey homes, farms and commercial drives. Built with a compacted base, a proper crown and drainage that survives mud season — not just a load of stone dumped on dirt.

Why New Jersey driveways fail — and how we build them instead

South Jersey soil runs sandy in some spots and heavy clay in others, and a lot of driveways here were never built — they were just topped. Stone spread over soft subgrade with no crown holds water, ruts under tires and turns to a mud pit every spring thaw. We fix the cause: excavate the failed material, shape the subgrade so water runs off, stabilize soft ground with fabric, then compact base stone in lifts before the finish layer ever goes down.

  • New gravel driveway installs for homes, farms and commercial lots
  • Regrading and crown restoration on muddy, rutted or potholed drives
  • Fresh stone resurfacing and edge definition
  • Drainage correction, swales, culverts and pipe under the drive
  • Driveway extensions, turnarounds and equipment parking pads
  • Aprons tied cleanly into the county or township road

Our process

Four steps, no shortcuts

  1. 01

    Site walk and measure

We walk the drive with you, find where water sits, and price the real scope — length, width, depth of stone and any drainage correction.

  2. 02

    Excavate and shape the grade

Soft soil, ruts and old failed stone come out. We cut the subgrade so the driveway can be crowned and pitched to shed water.

  3. 03

    Fabric and compacted base

Geotextile fabric over soft ground, then dense-graded base stone placed in lifts and compacted so the driveway carries weight instead of pumping mud.

  4. 04

    Finish stone and clean edges

3/4 inch finish stone raked to grade with defined edges, aprons tied into the road, and the site left clean.

Gravel driveway questions we get every week

How much does a gravel driveway cost in New Jersey?
It depends on length, width, how much excavation and base stone the site needs, and whether drainage has to be corrected. We measure on site and hand you a written number before anything starts — no guessing over the phone.
What stone do you use?
Usually a compacted quarry-process or dense-graded base with a 3/4 inch clean or crushed stone finish. The mix depends on your grade, your soil and how much traffic the drive takes.
Can you fix my muddy driveway instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. Most mud problems are grading and drainage problems. We regrade, restore the crown, add fabric where the ground is soft, and top with fresh stone for a fraction of a full rebuild.
How long does an install take?
Most residential driveways are a one to two day job once we're on site. Longer farm lanes and drives that need drainage pipe take a little more.
Are you insured?
Yes. BW Seasonal Property Maintenance LLC is a registered New Jersey LLC carrying general liability coverage, and we'll send a certificate of insurance on request before we bring a machine onto your property.
